At the end of January, architects and construction product manufacturers gathered for an insightful session at our Unlocking the Secrets of Specification event.

Hosted at the Royal College of Physicians in London. The Secrets to the Specification event featured expert speakers from right across the construction industry who shared actionable insights into the specification process. With a focus on connected information, risk management, sustainability, and digital innovation, here are the five key takeaways from the event:

1. Understand the Specification Process to Win More Work

One of the most significant barriers for manufacturers is understanding how specifications are created and how to influence them. Alex Tait, Director of Practice and Individual Knowledge at RIBA, gave a presentation on the RIBA Plan of Work and provided delegates with a comprehensive walkthrough of the entire specification process, highlighting key stages where manufacturers can engage and add value. In his presentation, he emphasised that specifiers do not select products randomly; they require clear and structured information that aligns with their project requirements. By providing well-structured product data in appropriate formats, manufacturers can make it easier for specifiers to incorporate their products into designs.
