We’re delighted to announce that RiserSafe manufacturer Ambar Kelly has joined NBS Source. We caught up with Director Nick Atkinson to find out more about RiserSafe, the solution that it provides and why they’re using NBS Source to promote it to specifiers.
Utilising 3D modelling, Ambar Kelly details and manufactures RiserSafe: a solution to the risks that riser shafts present when constructing multi-storey buildings. We caught up with Director Nick Atkinson to find out more about Ambar Kelly, and why the manufacturer is listing RiserSafe on NBS Source. Here’s what Nick had to say.
Ambar Kelly is proud to have created RiserSafe: a product that can eliminate risk and manage the riser zone during the life of the building. In simplistic terms, it's a steel-framed unit with a steel Durbar floor plate pre-cut, with the service penetrations and cover plates fixed at the factory. It is delivered to site and cast into the structural frame, providing a complete modular riser steel flooring solution that works with all frame types.
We use 3D modelling to bring all the relevant data into our modelling process, and look at the structure and openings in each project. We then detail our product to meet the project’s specific design requirement together with detailed advice to designers capturing all the standards and codes of practce.
By casting in the RiserSafe units, you eliminate the risk of falling through floor openings from height, and prevent the spread of smoke and flame between floors. The product provides a range of other benefits that reduce risk, as well as the amount of time and money spent on a project.
We’ve not had much luck with product platforms in the past. Due to RiserSafe being such a unique product, it doesn’t neatly fit into a category or classification. This was a problem for us, as we wanted to be listed on NBS platforms yet there was no place for us. To provide a space, NBS listened to my concerns, and took a flexible and collaborative approach. They worked with multiple teams across the business to create a brand-new category and classification for RiserSafe – in both Uniclass 2015 and CAWS – on NBS Source.
We believe that the industry should be specifying a single-source riser flooring solution that meets or exceeds the five standards that are associated with riser shafts, which occur in every multistorey building. That’s a key reason that we’ve listed RiserSafe on NBS Source: to get in front of designers and specifiers at the initial stages of a construction project. We believe that it’s fundamental to avoid risk in design.
We hope that, through NBS Source, we can bring awareness to the industry of the value of designing modular riser steel flooring to meet the requirements of CDM 2015’s ‘Principles of Prevention’.
